Painting since childhood, Semenzato won many awards before turning to painting as a professional pursuit. Semenzato’s style is certainly unique; painting not with brushes, but with a spatula, and not with an easel, but with his canvas in a horizontal position. He is both scrupulous and meticulous, spending several weeks at a time on a particular piece. Semenzato rebuilds dreams. He sections and disassembles them in order to reconstruct them through a filter of almost magic lyricism that fixes the shapes in a time without time; in a logical dimension that lives within its own dimension, perfectly isolated from impure contact.
Semenzato’s work has received great critical acclaim in several national competitions. His works are shown in many collections both in his native Italy, the USA, and around the world.
"The excited tone with which these shapes are set out on coloured surfaces must not mislead the observer. His inspiration is not driven by unrest and turmoil but rather by a long-lasting practice that goes towards an increasingly synthetic translation of real appearances. This means that Semenzato has penetrated and dominated more and more deeply into his world made of brief visions, imaginary figurative elements, landscapes, interiors, animal and floral plants, ignoring that their representation falls into mere fantasy." SIMONE FALLACCI
"It is a matter of fact that in the world of art, where we live, made of deliberate experiments, of researched styles, the art of Semenzato which is direct, neat and tidy, merry and well-finished, sweetly dreaming and realistically distorted, is like a breath of fresh air that the public "drinks" with infinite participation. Piero Sassi, a great supporter of the Venetian painter, understood that Semenzato was a painter of success and said that he could find in Semenzato's paintings his own narrative happiness, his own yearning for telling real and dreamt stories of a great world, watched with attentive eyes that are thirsty for happiness." ANTONIO SALUSTRI
"Shapes, houses, interiors, still lifes, the things in Paolo Semenzato are decisively grafted onto reality with pure strength of a primitive poetry, shaped under a warm and sensitive light. His picture is a fairy tale, taking us into a beautiful and far-away world which was made for us and that we have lost." GIANFRANCO BRUNI
